Before delving into the specifics, the CDM-UNI-Z2 Zoomer Universal Servo Drive Motor is a compact, versatile zoom motor designed to pivot to nearly any lens by simply mounting it on a 15mm rod. This universal motor unit is specifically designed to integrate seamlessly with the operational functions of Sony cameras in the FX9, FX6, FS7, and FS5 series. The servo drive's control is facilitated via the zoom rocker on the handle, and the motor control can be addressed through Sony's camera-specific protocol. It also functions independently of the camera signals when a LANC zoom rocker is directly plugged into the servo. The Zoomer comes with a Chrosziel Flexi toothed ring (206-30), enabling it to be used with virtually any zoom lens, even those without toothing. This feature makes it an invaluable tool for videographers using current large-sensor video cameras, which often come with a multi-function handgrip. This handgrip, apart from the recording function and a zoom rocker, also provides control over the camera menu and other customizable functions. The Chrosziel Universal Zoom Servo Drive now allows for optimal use of all manual zoom lenses in conjunction with the multi-function handgrip. To achieve this, the Zoomer is slid onto a 15mm rod and swiveled onto the zoom lens. Two plug-in cables establish the connection with the camera - one for power supply from the camera battery, and the second for the connection to the control commands between the handle and the camera. When using a standard LANC zoom rocker or handle with the Sony PXW-FS5, PXW-FS7, and PXW-FS7II, the servo is connected between the handle and the camera via an input and an output jack to receive all zoom control signals. For setup with the Sony PXW-FX9 camera, a Y-cable is used that accepts the Sony multi-connector and connects to both the input jack of the Zoomer and the input jack of the camera. For the Sony ILME-FX6 camera, a Y-cable is used and connects the 3.5mm connector of the Sony handgrip, input jack of the Universal Zoom Servo Drive, and the Sony camera. Key features of the CDM-UNI-Z2 Zoomer Universal Servo Drive Motor include a universal zoom motor that can be pivoted to almost any lens, control via Sony and LANC handgrip, and the ability to forward camera control signals. Control commands are immediately looped through to the camera, allowing for quick and easy adjustments to menu settings, user buttons, focus magnification, and camera run & stop.
