Civil War Stone Mountain Half Dollar Coin Featuring Generals Robert E. Lee And "Stonewall" Jackson - In the early 20th Century as Civil War veterans were aging, a group of businessmen and the Daughters of the Confederacy in Atlanta proposed a grand memorial to Confederate valor at Stone Mountain in Georgia, designed by award-winning sculptor John Gutzon de la mothe Borglum. Though a monument bearing only a slight resemblance to the original design would not be completed for nearly 50 years, the beautiful Stone Mountain Half Dollar created to fund the project would become a lasting testament to Borglum's ambitious vision. Now, at nearly 100 years old, this fascinating coin can be yours with The First Civil War Silver Commemorative Coin, available in an exclusive presentation from The Bradford Exchange Mint.Each genuine, legal tender coin was struck in 90% silver by the historic U.S. Philadelphia Mint in 1925.
