Honestly this was a pleasant surprise on my visit to Horniman, and not what I had expected to see - a native American totem pole in South London! The museum, the clocktower, the mosaic- all spectacular but I chose this angle to make the totem pole the 'hero' as it's such a unique and interesting piece against the contrasting architecture of the building itself. London’s first Alaskan totem pole, It was carved by Nathan Jackson, a Tlingit from Alaska, at the Museum of Mankind from 15 May to 15 June 1985. I loved doing the illustration, and including details like some colourful guests from the butterfly house making an appearance in the gardens. Sold unframed. Dispatched in postal tubes.
